Critical Reflection

Over the past 13 weeks, this course has revealed imperative and insightful examples and practises in becoming a better writer. In secondary school, I always considered myself as being fairly good at it. Before attending this course, I was unaware of how to write a perfect report. I have set goals to become a better writer and speaker and I am determined to forge my way through this module despite the challenges encountered. To my surprise, the way Professor Brad conducted his lessons really stood out from the rest and the pace was suitable. The reading material, videos, assignment samples are of great help. If I had the opportunity to recommend this course to be implemented in all phases of education, I definitely would. Professor Brad also did a very good job responding in earnest to my submissions and through his guidance of our writing assignments, I truly believe I have the potential to be an effective communicator. My confidence in speaking in front of a crowd grew as I was given

According to Kok in the article ”Go-Ahead Singapore rolls out 6-month trial of public buses with solar panels” (2021), Go-ahead Singapore will be running ultra-thin solar panels on buses in a six-month trial. The 1.6mm-thick, flexible and shatterproof panels are placed on the roof of two Man A22 euro 6 diesel-powered buses. The use of panels is expected to save 1400 litres of fuel. This is equivalent to 3-4% of fuel, which translates to 3.7 tonnes of reduction in carbon emissions. These figures are based on data collected from a trial in Southampton. The trial will also assess the effectiveness of the panels. Kok mentions that due to Singapore’s tropical climate, the panels are expected to produce exceptional results. This will result in a greener and more efficient bus. Two buses have been qualified thus far and can be used on public road trials. The panels are also three times thinner than regular ones, making them ultra-lightweight. Kok concludes that Go-Ahead reckons to recover the

Soul of Communication

Communication is at the core of effective leadership. It is obligatory for leaders to ensure that they are capable of managing and planning their team in an organized manner. Effective leadership is vital to gain trust in the pursuit of goals and inspire positive change. At a very basic level, communication is the transmission of information between a sender and a receiver. When communication is lacking, important information can often be misinterpreted and create barriers that hinder progress. Hence it is necessary to know how to communicate with different individuals, from employees to executives - especially the latter, since they ensure their organization fulfills its business purpose and remain financially stable. Critical thinking also plays a crucial role in being a successful leader. This allows leaders at every level to evaluate their decision-making and problem-solving. It is a tool for people to become proactive in the face of problems, whether in their personal life or care

Formal Letter

Dear Professor Brad, My name is Bryant and I am a student from Singapore Institute of Technology pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. My passion for engineering was inspired by my dad. Being an aerospace engineer, he often brings home parts to work on and I would sit alongside him and observe. Moreover, I enjoyed finding out how things worked, and engineering allows me to adopt that drive to solve problems and improve people's lives. I previously graduated from Mechatronics Engineering in Nanyang Polytechnic and served 2 years in the army. I also worked as a technician in a semiconductor company where I had the opportunity to create operating instructions, work on component testing and resolve any software issue that crop up. One takeaway from this experience is that I learnt how to think like an engineer and acquire critical analysis skills. My greatest weakness is that I can be too critical of myself. I have noticed that since young, I always focused on wha

Paraphrasing

"Developing excellent communication skills is absolutely essential to effective leadership. The leader must be able to share knowledge and ideas to transmit a sense of urgency and enthusiasm to other. If a leader cant get a message across clearly and motivate others to act on it, then having a message doesn't even matter." Gilbert Amelio, former President and CEO of National Semiconductor Corp A great leader should possess good communication skills. He/She has to be able to disseminate information clearly to the members by conveying a sense of zealousness. If not, there will be miscommunication and could result in discouragement within the group.
